Looking Forward to the New Year!

I just want to take a minute to thank everyone for their help and support of my special project. With your help, I have donated over 900 hats this year. I hope to top that next year and continue to expand my donations.

I received a very nice email from a new friend Teresa, who wears my hats. Here are some photos that she sent!
I had a great visit with my friend Trisha, who also wears my hats every day! She stopped by my house and gave me a whole bag of goodies for the holidays! She also stayed a while and helped make fudge with my mom, sister, and some other friends.

I am so grateful for all of the people that I have met and friends that I have made through my hat donations. I wish all of you a happy, healthy 2011!

New Hats for the Holidays!

A huge thanks to my friend and neighbor Jay for the beautiful hats that she just brought over to my house. The amount of time and attention to detail that she puts into each of her creations are an inspiration to knitters everywhere! The recipients of these hats will LOVE them!

Thanks Jay!

Back on Track

Yay! I made my first hat delivery since my heart problems started! I have kept up with my hat knitting, but my schedule has been very full with doctors lately. Thank you to everyone who has inquired about my health. It looks like my arrhythmia is originating in the right ventricular outflow tract. That means that it should not be life threatening. Great news! I was able to stop taking beta blockers and am medication free. I'm hoping that I won't have to start taking anti-arrhythmia drugs, but that remains to be seen. Right now, I'm doing great and am back at school after missing six weeks.

Heart Surgery

Hi,

I'm scheduled to have a heart surgery on November 16th. If you are in need of a hat, please email my mom at sgerber@san.rr.com. I'm still knitting while they figure out what's wrong with my heart, so feel free to let us know what you need!
Thanks,
Taylor

46 Mommas Shave for the Brave Photos

On September 7, 2010, 46 mothers whose children have been affected by cancer shaved their heads to increase awareness and raise money for cancer research.

I am happy that was able to donate hats to this worthy cause.
A BIG thanks to Kathy for delivering and distributing the hats!

Back to School

Today was the first day of the new school year. Jay is home from Hawaii and she dropped off some wonderful hats (Thanks Jay!!) while I was at school. She has a new flower design that takes her an entire day to knit. Yes...That's an entire day just for the flower! Here it is...

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

There is a group of 46 mothers of kids with cancer, who are getting their heads shaved on September 7 to raise awareness for childhood cancer. The number is 46 because 46 children are diagnosed with cancer every day in the United States.

I am working on knitting/collecting hats for the moms and the kids. I just found out about this event, so I'm asking for help. If you are interested in donating a hat or hats or in knitting/crocheting to help out, please email me at sgerber@san.rr.com. My mom will forward the messages to me and I will work out the details.

You can also donate to support cancer research on their site at: http://46mommas.com/

Thanks for your support!

This Just In!

I just received a box of hats from my friend Jay, who continues to knit even though she's vacationing in Hawaii. Now that's dedication! The red one is spoken for, but the rest are up for grabs. My grandmother has started to knit beret-style hats. They are very soft and can be positioned in many ways. The colors are pretty too. Thank you so much to both G.G. and Jay for your continued support and dedication.
At this point, I'm having a hard time keeping up with all of the requests for hats. I have never refused a request or charged for a hat or shipping, and it's getting pretty expensive. Ronda's Closet (a local clothing store) may be holding a fundraiser for yarn and supplies, so I'll post the details when that gets scheduled.
In the meantime, if you know of anyone who knits, crochets, or sews, please let them know that we are accepting donations and will make sure that every hats finds a good home. As always, please pass along my information to anyone in need of a hat.

Thanks to my little sister Alyssa for her hat-modeling expertise.

Today I passed the 500 mark for my hats donations! I would like to thank everyone who has helped me by donating their time and energy to knitting so many hats. I could not have knit this many hats in less than six months alone!

Up for grabs!

Up for grabs are three beautiful new hats. These hats were hand knit by Jay. Each hat takes her an entire day or longer, so it's truly a labor of love. Her knitting is incredibly even and precise.

Thank you so much to Jay for her kindness, generosity, and giving spirit!

If you or someone you know would like one of these hats, please email me or leave me a message in the guestbook on the right side of my blog. These will go FAST!
